Gauteng Bowls is proud to announce that Bridget Herselman and Brendan Ferns have been selected to represent South Africa at the World Bowls Champion of Champions 2025, to be held at Club Barham in New South Wales, Australia, from 20 to 26 September 2025.
This prestigious international event brings together national champions from around the world to compete for top honours in the singles format. Both Bridget and Brendan earned their places through outstanding performances at the Bowls South Africa Open Singles Championships earlier this year, where they each emerged victorious in their respective divisions.
Bridget Herselman - Women’s Open Singles Champion
Representing Leases Bowling Club in the Sables District, Bridget Herselman (née Calitz) continues to shine as one of South Africa’s most accomplished young bowlers. Her recent win at the BSA Open Singles Championship 2025, following a nail-biting 21-20 victory over Leila Snyman, demonstrated her composure and tactical excellence under pressure.
Bridget’s career includes representation at the Commonwealth Games and strong performances in national competitions such as the BSA Masters and Perfect Delivery Inter-Districts. With over 15 years in the sport, she has become a role model for aspiring players and a proud ambassador for women’s bowls in South Africa.
Sanette Kritzinger, President of Gauteng Bowls, congratulated Bridget, saying:
“From September 21 to 25, we’ll be cheering loudly for our Golden Girl, Bridget Herselman. As the Women’s Open National Champion from the Sables District, she is set to shine on the world stage. Proudly representing South Africa!”
Brendan Ferns - Men’s Open Singles Champion
Representing Wingate Bowling Club in the Bowls Gauteng North District, Brendan Ferns has built a reputation for consistency, skill, and sportsmanship. His triumph at the BSA Men’s Open Singles Championship 2025, defeating fellow clubmate Wayne Perry in a tense final, secured his position among South Africa’s elite bowlers and earned him his place at the World Champion of Champions.
Brendan’s previous successes include a strong performance at the 2024 BSA Men’s Nationals, where his team narrowly missed gold in the pairs playoff. His precision and focus continue to set the standard for excellence within South Africa’s bowling community.
President Sanette Kritzinger praised Brendan’s achievement:
“Brendan Ferns, our outstanding Men’s Open National Champion from Bowls Gauteng North, is set to represent our province and our country with distinction. He truly embodies the spirit of Gauteng Bowls - dedication, excellence, and pride.”
Wishing Our Champions Success
On behalf of the entire Gauteng Bowls Executive, President Sanette Kritzinger extended her best wishes to both players:
“We are incredibly proud of Bridget and Brendan as they prepare to represent South Africa at the World Bowls Champion of Champions 2025. Their hard work and passion continue to inspire bowlers across our province. We wish them every success as they compete on the world stage.”
